Nikon D7000 (aka Nikon is smarter than Canon)
Canon recently announced the 60D, the sucessor to the long awaited 50D part of the xxD line of semi-professional bodies. Within hours of the press release some forums were full of talk of disappointment- the 60D did not continue the same body size and dropped several other features that would have logically been added to a 50D successor while adding a few that are seen by professionals as useless (e.g. in camera picture styles) This isn’t to say that the 60D is a bad camera, it looks to be excellent with top-notch HD video and solid image quality it is just that by using the 60D name many photographers were expecting something more, the problem is if Canon gave any more in the 60D they would be cannibalizing sales of their flagship crop sensor camera the 7D. So why is Nikon smarter? Their soon to be announced replacement to their Dxx line, most recently the D90, will not continue the same naming convention, opting instead to fit as a higher model in their Dxxxx line, most recently the D3001 and D5000. The new camera is rumored to be called a D7000. This is all a bit silly though because it is just a name and the D90 was well loved and whatever its replacement was called it has some serious shoes to fill.
