Why I love the D90

Anytime anyone asks about the D90 I tell them it is fantastic. Often this conversation happens on twitter and 140 characters can feel fairly limiting. I thought I would do a quick write-up with slightly more detail about why I think the D90 is so fantastic. What I love: * Image quality is truly outstanding for the price * Excellent viewfinder – Bright & large with helpful info displayed * Superb high resolution LCD monitor * Useful in-camera RAW processing option * Low-light performance is class leading at this price point & automatic sensitivity (ISO) settings * Wireless flash commander built-in * Excellent degree of customization, programmable & configurable * Excellent build quality and the ergonomics- feels right in my hands * Auto-focus assist lamp rather than requiring flash to be raised * LCD panel on top of camera (we still like them) * HD video is an option Note: Don’t buy it for the HDvideo – rolling shutter and very slow auto focus make it tricky to use in everyday shooting situations, you also have 5min limit on clip length. Comparable: For $300 less you can get the Canon T1i Same hi-resolution LCD and comparable Image Quality until the ISO goes higher, the D90 is winner in low light. T1i has slightly better HD video but focus is still slow. The build quality and ergonomics are not on same level as D90. UPDATE: D90 body only is now selling for just a hair over $800, this is an excellent SUPERB price for a prosumer camera. Buy the D90 from Amazon

Thanks Toby. This was a great outline…I’ve been on the fence for months. Looks like I’ll be heading out to buy a bday present for myself this weekend. I’ll keep you posted.

Would love to see a write up on canon 2ti and a comparison to d90. Leaning toward t2i but still held neither in my hands. Just T1i and d5000 (I think). I’m asumming those are good comparables?
